Skokie Valley Baptist Church (“SVBC”) is a 330-member congregation located in Wilmette, IL drawing from surrounding communities including Chicago and the northern suburbs. We are a multi-cultural and multi-generational congregation that is continuing to build on over 60 years of community and global ministry impact. We are only 20 miles north of Chicago, near Lake Michigan, conveniently located off of I-94. Award winning schools and universities, shopping, entertainment and recreational facilities are plentiful here too.



SVBC is looking for a Senior Pastor who will fulfill God’s vision for SVBC through effective communication and relational skills. Our next pastor will lead and direct the preaching/teaching ministry, ensuring that a biblically-based message of significance is delivered with passion and excellence. While under the supervision of the Executive Board, the next Senior Pastor will act as leader of the staff and church. He will embrace the multi-cultural and multi-generational nature of the SVBC congregation and effectively communicate the visionary direction of SVBC.



Candidates who are interested in becoming SVBC’s next Senior Pastor must:

  • Candidate and wife must be willing to become a member of the church

  • Be committed to the vision, mission, affirmation of faith and ministry of SVBC

  • Provide strong recommendations and references

  • Possess a personal background that reflects strong moral and ethical character

  • Effectively communicates as a preacher-teacher, a visionary and a spiritual and servant leader with capable experience in the supervision of staff and shepherding of a congregation

  • Demonstrate high degree of experience and success in ministry with a culturally and generationally diverse population.

SVBC is looking for someone who will, with God’s leading, fulfill the following list of important responsibilities:



Seek to discern God’s message and spend significant time and study to develop and deliver that message. Employ a variety of preaching and teaching methods. Lead a teaching/preaching team to provide live messages at multiple services. Teach and facilitate seminars, classes or courses for the purpose of fulfilling the mission of SVBC as needed.



Vision: Seek God’s direction, develop His vision for SVBC and fulfill that vision in a way that maximizes available gifts and resources. Seek to find new ways and additional resources to accomplish God’s plan for the church. Work to accomplish a vision for the church with respect for and in cooperation with lay leaders and committees.


Staff Leadership:

Identify and develop gifted women and men. Collaboratively lead and oversee the professional pastoral staff for successful ministry. In conjunction with the Executive Board, continually evaluates pastoral staff, the effectiveness of programs, and proposes creative ideas for improvement. Identify and communicate clear goals and effective strategies to achieve them. Provide ongoing discipleship, mentoring, and spiritual oversight of church staff members.


Congregational Leadership:

Challenge and inspire the congregation to be transformed personally by the Holy Spirit. Building on an established foundation of worship, missions and children’s ministries, seek to guide our congregation into developing deeper relationships and become servant leaders who impact and reach out to our community and world for Christ.



Relational Care: Intentionally seek to know SVBC and surrounding communities, demonstrate hospitality, actively listen, provide biblical correction and desire to care for those who don’t know Christ. Able to be a healing presence in conflicted relationships both personal and corporate.


Congregational Care:

Provide counseling/mentoring service as needed. Participate in various special services and events such as weddings, funerals, prayer meetings, baptisms, child dedications, ministry ordinations, communion, AWANA, Vacation Bible School and other outreach events, etc.



  • Ordained with a ministerial license or willing to seek ordination within first two years

  • Seminary degree or higher

  • Experience in pastoral ministry preaching-teaching, leadership and supervision of multi-function staff



SVBC’s Senior Pastor is a full-time position with a competitive salary package.
