Session Descriptions

SESSION 1 | JESUS’ FIRST WORD

What was Jesus’ first word? Find out in this session. We will also uncover a theology of the family as we consider how God created a very good world that is now cursed.

SESSION 2 | ALONE TOGETHER

How is technology discipling the next generation and their families? Is social media making us more or less human? This session discusses how we, as the image of God, can use the gift of technology with wisdom.

SESSION 3 | SEX, BEER, COLLEGE, & JESUS

In regard to sex, beer, and college, have our imaginations been hijacked by culture’s messages? Have we accepted a counterfeit gospel story, instead of God’s best for our lives? This session discusses how we can bring our imaginations back under the obedience of Christ.

SESSION 4 | HOW TO READ THE BIBLE LIKE THE DEVIL

Often the full story of the Bible is lost because of our affinity for bite-sized nuggets of Scripture. Instead of asking the question, “What does this text mean to me?” we should be asking, “What does this passage say about God, His character, and the greater story of His coming Kingdom?” In this session, we learn that reading the Bible in context is crucial to our understanding of God’s story for the world.

SESSION 5 | SKITTLES FOR LUNCH (OR DINNER)

During this family meal, families eat and talk with each other as well as play games and have fun taking an “Awkward Family Photo” together.

SESSION 6 | HOPE FOR FAMILIES

After looking at all of the things we have failed at, it’s time for some hope! This session looks at how family is still under God’s rule, and all of our shortcomings have been forgiven and washed away by Jesus’ blood. In light of that, how should our families be different? How should our habits change?

SESSION 7 | JESUS’ LAST WORDS

Finally, we look at how God’s story will end. What will it be like when God finally restores His Kingdom? In light of that, how can families begin to overcome the power of the curse and become agents of hope and restoration to those around them? Families will draft a Vision Statement that works through the Gospel narrative of Creation, Curse, Ransom, and Renewal, as well as an Action Plan with practical, achievable ways of bringing their habits, vision, script, and community back under the dominion of Christ.

THE TEAM

Meet Team Alie!

Each of us has a deep passion for students and for helping them to see that following Christ is more reasonable and fulfilling than any other path the world has to offer. We are excited for the opportunity we have to get to know you and all of the students at your church. Check out more about why Axis partners with churches!

  • ALIE BIMM - TEAM DIRECTOR

Alie graduated from Colorado Christian University with her degree in Communications with Intercultural Ministry and Biblical Studies. She competed in collegiate speech in debate and has experience in marketing and worship leading. Over the years her passion for evangelism, restorative justice, Christian leadership and education have grown exponentially. She now hopes to be able to use these passions to speak truth to the rising generation. She is a lover of music, reading, quality time, movies and games (board games and card games). In her free time, she loves to be with friends and family, going on hikes, drinking coffee/tea and eating good food. Her all time favorite snack is popcorn, with pistachios as a close second. Alie looks forward to be with you and our church very soon!

  • TYLER ANDERSON - TEAM MEMBER

Tyler graduated from Missouri State University with a Religious Studies degree and a minor in History. He spent t he past couple years learning how to minister and share the Gospel inside his fraternity. Tyler was the first Christ follower in his fraternity and started a discipleship tree that still stands today. He has experience speaking to large groups of people and ministering to non-believers. Tyler is always down to eat a good burger or a slice of pizza. He also enjoys sports and going on new adventures.

  • COURTNEY MALONEY - TEAM MEMBER

Courtney graduated from Anderson University with a Bachelors in Christian Ministries and Youth Leadership Development. Having ministered to a variety of students (convicts, addicts, people with disabilities and church kids) Courtney has experience interacting and sharing the Gospel with people from all walks of life. Her various internships at camps and churches have taught her that laughter, games, and a good sarcastic comment can bring together people from all walks of life. She has witnessed the power of testimony and authenticity when it comes to calling students into engagement rather than apathy in their faith. Courtney gratefully welcomes the opportunity to help students see the freedom that comes in owning who we are in Christ, and for her that means indoorsy and dramatic.

  • JASON JONES - TEAM MEMBER

Jason grew up in Eastern North Carolina. Although he was raised in a Christian school, he didn't come to faith until college. After finding his faith, he quickly became passionate about evangelism and apologetics, giving people a rational and heartfelt defense of the Gospel. He soon moved to Nashville for three years to finish his degrees in Psychology and Theology at Welch College. While there, he worked as a youth leader and among refugee populations from around the world, where he gained valuable cross cultural teaching experience. Jason is an energetic and motivated speaker who seeks to advance the Kingdom by clearly articulating the hope of the Gospel, and seeing students transformed as a result of encountering Christ. In addition, he loves live music, exploring wildlife parks, waterfalls, and good books.
