PASTORAL CANDIDATE TIM BRUBAKER AND FAMILY
Wife Jessica, and children Thomas, Martin, Cecilia, and Eliza
Tim and Jessica Brubaker are currently ministering in Kigali, Rwanda, where they serve as missionaries with WorldVenture. Tim has been serving as the National Director of New Creation Ministries (NCM), which strives to help the church in Rwanda to function as the Body of Christ. In this capacity, he has been leading a multi-national staff of twenty people toward implementation of a common mission. His main focus has been on teaching and discipling pastors from across the region. Additionally, he has spearheaded NCM’s efforts to launch a university-level program for discipling Christian leaders called the Christian Leadership Institute of Rwanda, which graduated its first cohort earlier this year. He is also an active member of their local church’s preaching faculty, using the opportunity to further disciple church leaders in the context of local church ministry. Jessica keeps pace with the momentum of four children (Thomas, Martin, Cecilia, and Eliza) and is a regular teacher in CLIR and a discipler of women in the program. She maintains an active ministry of prayer for many within the community.
Tim is originally from Connecticut; Jessica is from Alaska. They met in 1996 at the Moody Bible Institute. In 1997, they started attending Skokie Valley Baptist Church, where they were married one year later. While Tim was attending seminary at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, he worked as SVBC’s janitor. In 1999, he came on staff with the church – initially as a youth intern, then as youth pastor for four years. In April 2003, under the leadership of Pastor Ed Brown, SVBC ordained Tim and provided for his licensure for Gospel ministry in the State of Illinois. In June 2004, SVBC sent the Brubakers to Rwanda. Over the years, during seasons of furlough from Rwanda, Tim and Jessica and their children have returned home to SVBC.
After almost 14 years in Rwanda, Tim and Jessica have been trusting the Lord for His guidance for the next phase of life and ministry. Tim feels strongly called to three areas of ministry: discipleship, teaching/preaching, and leading a team toward implementation of its mission and vision. He has significant experience in both teaching and preaching and enjoys working with a team to pursue a vision, while building community and encouraging the gifts of others in the process.
