REGULAR WORSHIP SCHEDULE—Please take note our Regular
Worship schedule continues as follows: Corporate Prayer 8:00 a.m.; Worship
Service 8:30 a.m. Coffee Fellowship 9:45 a.m.; Sunday School and Life
Discovery Classes 9:45–10:45 a.m.; and Worship Service 11:00 a.m.
WEE CARE OPEN HOUSE – Wee Care Children’s Center will
have an open house on Sunday, September 27, immediately following the
worship service. All are invited to come by and see what God is doing in
our community through this wonderful ministry of SVBC. The lives of so many
people are being touched by the love and care they have received directly
and indirectly through Wee Care. Be sure to stop by and get to know the
people involved while you enjoy some light refreshments.
Nominations FOR THE EXECUTIVE BOARD - TODAY the
Nominating Committee will be accepting nominations for 2 open positions on
the Executive Board. The cards and voting box are in the narthex on the
table in front of the main bulletin board.
“HILDA’S PLACE” HOMELESS SHELTER MINISTRY—We are looking
for future volunteers to help serve dinner each month to the residents of
Hilda's Place, a homeless shelter in Evanston. If you are unable to donate
your time, Hilda’s Place still needs your donations! See our main bulletin
board today for information regarding what items are needed to keep their
kitchen running smoothly. Most items are inexpensive and available at the
dollar store. Your contributions can really make a difference in someone’s

SVBC ONLINE PICTORIAL DIRECTORY—As everyone knows we are
in need of an updated SVBC Pictorial Directory. We want to go a step
further (and greener) by providing you with a free online directory to
access at anytime from your computer through our password protected
website. Photocopies of the directory will be available when the project is
completed for those without computer access. Free photography for your
family picture will be available starting Sunday, October 4, through Sunday,
October 25, after both the 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. services. You may also
submit your favorite family photo to be used in the directory by emailing it
to pat@skokievalley.org. Contact the church office for more details.
NEW MEMBER COFFEE AND MEMBERSHIP CLASSES COMING SOON!- If
you would like to become a member of SVBC or are interested in learning more
about the church, you are invited to a coffee on Sunday, October 4, from
9:45–10:45 a.m. Membership classes will be led by Pastor Dave on Sundays,

Tuesday Morning
Ladies Bible Study—The Tuesday morning ladies Bible study will resume
on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. They have a 10-week study planned
in Proverbs about learning how to live wisely. If you are interested,

IT'S TIME FOR CHOIR TO START AGAIN!—Our Choir is getting
ready to sing for the Advent and Christmas season. We will rehearse on
Wednesdays from 7:45-8:30 pm beginning October 7, in the sanctuary. Please
see Beth Burger for more information. We'd love to have you join us!
THANKSGIVING STARTS WITH YOU! - As the Thanksgiving
holiday approaches, Skokie Valley Baptist Church would like to make this
holiday truly special for a number of families. After the service on
Sunday, Oct. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 22, be sure to find your way to our
well-known display board in the narthex. We will have tabs of food items we
are collecting to distribute in the days before Thanksgiving. Many of these
items are small and inexpensive. Please choose one or more tabs and bring
those items back to the church by Sunday, November 22, so that we may
organize and prepare the packages for distribution. If you have any

Join SVBC friends
on Sunday, October 18, for the “2009 North Shore CROP Hunger Walk”—
Each walker will receive a sponsor envelope to help raise money toward
fighting hunger. (Pledge money is collected individually and turned in on
Walk Day.) One of the many beneficiaries will be Hilda’s Place in

HOW DOES OUR GARDEN GROW? - We have a SVBC garden work
day planned for Saturday, October 24th, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. You are
invited to come and help take care of our church garden. Please wear work
clothes and bring garden gloves, shears and shovels if you have them. A
sign-up sheet is available in the narthex today. If you have any questions,
contact Carol Daum or the church office.
JOIN US FOR MID-WEEK BIBLE STUDIES —
Tuesday Nights, beginning
Sept. 29, 7:00–8:00 p.m. for “A Life That Matters,” taught by Pastor Ed.
Study is based on the book by Ron Hutchcraft, this group discusses how we
can reach out to unbelievers.
Wednesday Nights,
6:45–8:00 p.m. for “Gospel of John,” taught by Pastor Dave. An in-depth
discussion of the Gospel of John, focusing on how this particular Gospel
portrays Christ.
Thursday Nights,
1st and 3rd Thursdays, Oct. – Dec. (Oct. 1, 15; Nov. 5, 19; Dec. 3,
17) for “A Reformation Overview,” taught by Pastor Dave. An introduction to
the key figures and the key ideas that sparked the Protestant Reformation.
Featuring dramatic video and group discussion.
YOUTH & CHILDREN’S MINISTRY —
AWANA HAS BEGUN! – Our AWANA program continues on Wednesdays, for ages 3
through 5th grade from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. Clubbers learn that God is real, He
loves them, and that He has expressed that love through Jesus Christ. If you
need more information or would like to register or volunteer, please contact
the church office at 847.256.1050. We specifically have a need for one T&T
Boys Leader (grades 3-5).
PARENTING SEMINAR WITH BOB LONG—SVBC is proud to welcome
back Bob Long. Bob is teaching a series entitled, “Living with Teenagers.”
The series continues today and on Sunday, September 27, 9:45–10:45 a.m. in
the choir room. Be sure to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to
help us parent, understand and love our teenage children. For more

KIDS’ CHURCH GRADES 1–5 — Our Kids’ Church program
resumes Sunday, October 11; all students grades 1–5 are invited to join us
during the 11:00 a.m. worship service in rooms 208/210. Our Kids’ Church
program provides a fun, informative and creative way to provide Christian

“Jam Nite” Sunday, Sept. 27, 7:00–8:00 p.m.—Join our jam session for a
different look at worship. We will be featuring contemporary, casual,
inspiring and uplifting worship. You can perform with featured artists;
open slots are available at the microphone! Lyric and content approval is

Paintball Outing
Saturday, Oct. 10—High adventure for the whole family! Meet at the
church at 8:20 a.m. We will return to the church by 6:00 p.m. Must be 12
years old or older. We will spend the day at the amazing Promise Land
Paintball in Wisconsin. Cost is $55 for equipment rental, 500 balls, CO2
and a good lunch. Space is limited, so sign up in narthex with Tim Stern by
making a $25 deposit check to Skokie Valley Baptist church and turning in a
waiver.
